A study published in BioMed Central revealed that women who undergo Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) have a significantly lower chance of developing Alzheimer’s symptoms.
According to the research, women who don’t go through HRT, have a 3% lower delayed memory score. On the other hand, women who experience HRT have a whopping 10% higher delayed memory score.
The study discovered that most women were at high risk of Alzheimer’s, especially during the perimenopause phase. But when administered with HRT, the risk dropped significantly, and the brain showed immense improvement in the memory region.
Alzheimer’s is among the leading cognitive decline neurological conditions affecting around 4 million women in the US alone, per the Alzheimer’s Association. Being over 60 years, carrying Alzheimer’s genes, or living an unhealthy lifestyle may make females more prone to this disease.
HRT is a process that helps elevate the hormones to an optimal level after menopause. The process boosts brain volume and improves memory in women, per the study.
